Silver Labrador Puppies
Why a Silver Lab?
Labrador lovers or enthralled by the Silver Lab and the extraordinary hue is gaining popularity. The main thing that makes a Silver Lab pup so diverse is the shade of their hair/coat. They really are a dilute chocolate Labrador.
What does that mean to be a “Dilute Chocolate Labrador?”
Silver Labradors are Chocolate Labradors shaded with the dilute gene. The gene that controls coat color is the ‘D’ gene. To get a dilute version, the gene is recessive (d). A puppy won’t have a dilute coat unless it inherits the recessive d gene from two parents. If a chocolate puppy gets a copy of the small d allele from mom and one from dad, then the pup will have two copies making it a full dilute and also a Silver Labrador.
Getting Into the Genetics
