Black Labs
The History of the Labrador Retriever is somewhat secretive in so much that the Labrador Retriever does not begin from Labrador in Canada yet rather from adjacent Newfoundland. A few scholars accept that the breed may even have started in Portugal (Labrador signifies ‘worker’ in Portuguese) before being brought into Newfoundland by Portuguese mariners.
The St Johns Dogs were perfect for chasing and game which was the reason they were so famous with wealthy Englishmen who could bear to have them brought once again from Canada. By the mid-1800s there were a couple of references to the St Johns Dogs being called Labradors however the name didn’t come into normal use until around 1865.
By the 1880s a constrained rearing project was in progress in Britain. All Labradors were dark until 1892 when the Duke of Buccleuch reproduced the principal liver hued Labs however the primary genuine chocolate’s wouldn’t show up in any number until the 1930s. The main yellow Lab, the unbelievable Ben of Hyde, was conceived in 1899. I guess the historical backdrop of the Labrador Retriever formally started in 1903 when the breed was perceived by English Kennel Club with the American Kennel Club taking action accordingly in 1917.
While looking at black labs, you have probably noticed a wide variety of colors. These colors can range from chocolate, silver, charcoal, a champagne, yellow, and even the beautiful fox red labradors.
